Farewell Yellowstone

Bidding farewell to Yellowstone National Park was bittersweet.  As we drove away, our traveling spirit played tug-of-war with our heartstrings. We found ourselves ready and excited for new adventures yet hopelessly captivated by this wilderness wonderland!

   

You may recall from our March 31, 2014 blog, that we decided to work part time in West Yellowstone because it “seemed like an ideal way to trade in our “tourista” goggles for “rookie resident” specs and experience Yellowstone from an insider’s perspective!”    And it proved to be that and more.  Working at retail stores Smith & Chandler and Firehole Trading Company, we met a lot of interesting people, made new friends, laughed, and received more information about Yellowstone and wildlife than we could have otherwise.  Plus, it was a kick learning about the retail industry first hand.  Family and friends vacationed with us and we reveled in donning our tour guide hats to show them “our” park!   (See the Guestbook: “Who’s on Our Road?” blog section for stories and photos of those visits.)

  

We ventured to Yellowstone’s national park neighbor, the Grand Tetons, where we travelled back in time to the famous 101 year old T.A. Moulton Barn, admired autumn’s rich foliage and listened to elks bugle in the distance. So many cherished times and memories!

  

Despite living on the  park’s doorstep for 5-1/2 months we never tired of our explorations,  always anticipating some new discovery or experience.  And the park delivered without fail…not always what we wanted but oftentimes much more than we expected! From April’s snow to September’s radiance, it seems like we saw it all….but we know better!  And so, we plan to return to Yellowstone some day because we can’t seem to untangle those heartstrings.
