Let the Yellowstone Adventure Begin!

Let the Yellowstone Adventure Begin!

“I NEVER thought I would be driving Betty to the snow,” my warm-weather-loving husband declared, grinning cheerfully.  Blankets of white bordered the two-lane highway against a backdrop of cream tipped mountains.  Forecasters predicted snow showers this afternoon so we left early, grateful for clear roads and an easy drive. Muddy skies followed us but nothing could dampen our celebratory arrival into West Yellowstone, MT!  Our ~ 1,050 mile, 4-day  journey from Southern California is complete!

We found our assigned RV spot, recently snow plowed and outfitted with a beautiful pine tree but, oops!  No matter how Greg maneuvered Betty, she just couldn’t fit under the low hanging branches.  Maintenance trimmed the tree swiftly and we rushed through our setup chores.

“Let’s go to the park!”   Hurrying 1/2 mile to Yellowstone’s west entrance we discovered it was closed to motorized vehicles until Friday, April 18″.  We were 3 days early!  Even that didn’t tarnish our excitement.

The town is definitely in the ‘tween season.  Somewhere between Winter and Spring – waking up and stretching to prepare for a busy tourist season.  Mother Nature is tossing and turning too.  Today, she chilled us with temperatures in the high 30’s, turned a cold snowy shoulder, suffered a sunny 50 degree fever and waffled between snow and sun for a few hours.  We’re rooting for sun!  But no matter what the weather….each day will be an adventure in this wilderness wonderland!

Visitor Information: This weekend, April 19 and 20, is opening weekend for National Parks Week.  Entrance fees are free on those two days.  Enjoy a National Park near you.

  1. I’m looking forward to following your adventure. We had snow this past Sunday in Moab 🙂

  2. Enjoy this one of the most beautiful and serene places. I rode Yellowstone on my bike in ’82. Best, best trip ever. Enjoy!

  3. yea, you made it! – 1/2 mile from the park?? – that is awesome!
Is that Betty’s home through the summer?

  4. Glad you made it. Enjoy your summer when it gets there.

  5. We’re gonna stop by in July on our way back from Wisconsin….

  6. I can relate to the fickle weather – we were in the 70s on Monday then got 3 inches of snow overnight and woke to a beautiful white blanket of snow on Tuesday morning. However, as beautiful as it was we’re all ready for winter to be done and for the historic snow fall to take its place in the history books and relinquish its grip to spring.

  7. Glad to hear you made it safely. You’ll get to experience The changing of the seasons which should be beautiful, enjoy!
